Love of Reading

Why Reading is Important...

For ELL students, one of the most allusive goals can be reading a text and being able to comprehend the language along with the subject matter knowledge.  One way to grow in this area is to read MORE.  Love of Reading provides an extra half hour of reading for every session attended, and also allows students to ask the teacher or administrator of the program for help identifying cultural clues.

It is safe to say that reading REALLY is important.  Here are five reasons why:

1.) It is a necessary skill to survive in the world of school, universities, and the work force.
2.) The ability to learn about new subjects (from history to hip hop) and find helpful information, depends upon the ability to read.
3.) The internet has made the written word even more common than it was before.  Being able to navigate your way through the information world is as valuable as gold.
4.) The more you read, the better you become at reading.
5.) Reading opens doors: if you can read, the entire knowledge of mankind is at your fingertips.
