Love of Reading

So You Know Reading is Important:

It's time to start reading.

  • Love of Reading will gather after school in the library, and function as a club; it is an organization that is not mandatory, but teachers who feel their students would benefit are allowed to ask students to attend for extra credit, or in place of an assignment.

  • Students will read literature, not text books, as a way to enjoy the material while learning.  It is important for the students to feel they have ownership over the material.

  • The main idea behind Love of Reading, and one of the main goals, is to place students on a path towards enjoying reading, which will lead them to read more and become better readers.  With Love of Reading, students will read more, and therefore learn these skills that will help in EVERY subject, not just English.

  • ELL students will have the opportunity to not only improve their reading skills, but to engage with other ELL students.  Students will be encouraged to trade books, discuss themes, and talk about the struggles they are encountering in school.
